On World Cervical Cancer Day, the Giovanni Scambia Foundation was officially inaugurated, in memory of Giovanni Scambia, a distinguished physician and a leading figure in women's care, who passed away prematurely last February. The ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Catholic University of Rome campus. The Foundation aims to support scientific research, promote clinical excellence, and train new generations of doctors and researchers. "My father's untimely death has made it even clearer to us how important health is," commented Luisa, Giovanni Scambia's daughter. "That's why, in our own small way, we want to contribute to research."

The connection with the Valore Uomo Association had already been expressed on the occasion of the establishment of a special Valore Award named after Giovanni Scambia, which will be awarded starting with the award's sixth edition. His daughter Luisa recalled the deep friendship that bound her father to the President of the Valore Uomo Association, Giuseppe Mazzucchiello, emphasizing how this special award represents tangible recognition of Professor Scambia's commitment and scientific legacy. Mazzucchiello himself emphasized the importance of the Giovanni Scambia Foundation, stating:

"The great masters of medicine are measured not only by their clinical successes, but by their ability to transform knowledge and passion into concrete tools for the good of people. The Scambia Foundation and the Valore Award dedicated to Professor Scambia represent a living legacy, destined to guide future generations of doctors and researchers towards excellence and humanity in care."

The Giovanni Scambia Foundation, along with the Giovanni Scambia Value Award, represents a concrete commitment to continuing the work of a doctor who left an indelible mark on medicine and the lives of those fortunate enough to have met him.

Premio Valore V Edizione 2025

The fifth edition of the Valore Award took place at Villa Miani in Rome, this year dedicated to the theme "The Protection of Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." The Award, established in 2016 and now a national benchmark, was presented to men and women from civil society who, through their work, have distinguished themselves in the defense of human rights and the safeguarding of collective well-being.

The event was organized by the Valore Uomo Association, founded in 1998 with the aim of promoting the protection of human dignity primarily through ongoing efforts to disseminate knowledge, culture, and professional training, with a view to keeping the debate on the inviolable freedoms of the individual alive and vibrant. The choice of Leonardo's Aerial Screw as the material representation of the Award embodies these values. The Aerial Screw, fruit of Leonardo da Vinci's creative and visionary genius, remains an icon of innovation and symbolizes the elevation of the human spirit toward new horizons of progress.

There were moments of deep emotion during the event as the recently deceased gynecologist Professor Giovanni Scambia, a luminary in women's oncology and dean of the Valore Uomo Association, was remembered. His daughter, Engineer Luisa Scambia, announced the imminent establishment of the Giovanni Scambia Foundation to continue the research her father began many years ago, a research project that significantly contributed to the excellence achieved by the Gemelli Polyclinic in this field. She also recalled the great personal friendship between her father and our president, Attorney Giuseppe Mazzucchiello. She expressed her full support to the Valore Uomo Association for the creation of a special Valore Award, to be presented starting with the sixth edition, named after her late friend Giovanni.

Giuseppe Mazzucchiello, President of the Valore Uomo Association, emphasized the importance of the award: "With the Valore Award, we celebrate those who, with responsibility and vision, place technology and their commitment at the service of humanity. In a period of radical transformation, it is essential that technological innovation and digital transition proceed hand in hand with respect for fundamental rights, always placing the individual at the center. In this sense, we intend to build a bridge between law, science, culture, and civil society to ensure that progress truly benefits humanity."

President Mazzucchiello then added that "much like what happens with a child, whose first educator is said to be the family, even in the case of artificial intelligence, we can think of those who input data into the machine as playing a similar role. Family transmits values, and similarly, those responsible for training artificial intelligence have the responsibility of instilling an ethical vision. If these people act in accordance with fundamental principles and do not forget the values on which our humanity is founded—with ethics at its core—then it is reasonable to believe that even in the age of artificial intelligence, which is no longer the future but the present, human rights can continue to be protected."

Particularly evocative was the solemn performance of the Mameli Anthem, performed by the Choir of the "Virgilio" Comprehensive Institute of Rome, which introduced the awards ceremony.
